Common Anxiety Symptoms

One of the basics of anxiety therapy is learning about the condition and getting to understand it.  The more you understand anxiety, the better equipped you are to be able to treat it. One of the things that you should learn about early on are the symptoms of anxiety. By knowing the symptoms you will be able to recognize when an attack is starting and you will be able to properly identify that what you are feeling really is anxiety and not some other medical condition.

Anxiety symptoms can be broken down into a variety of different categories. Some people may experience only certain categories of symptoms, while others may experience them all. Each person is different and that is why symptoms can vary widely. Anxiety symptoms fall into these categories:

Body

Senses

Mental

The symptoms that may manifest in your body can be both external and internal. They can include health issues like allergies, back pain, pale skin, tremors, body temperature changes, and burning sensations. Additionally, symptoms can seem a lot like you are having a heart attack.  You may feel tightening in the chest, increased heart beat, have trouble breathing and feel pains in your body.

You may experience other symptoms that can feel like something else is wrong. These include dizziness, choking, clumsiness, trouble speaking, and flu like symptoms. You may also start to have odd feelings, like weird cravings, feeling like you are falling, the inability to relax, or feeling like you may pass out.

Senses

You will learn in your anxiety therapy that your senses play an important role. Anxiety is often brought on through your senses. Some of the symptoms that you will feel, related to your senses include those affecting hearing, sight and touch.

Hearing symptoms include feeling like something is in your ear, hearing rumbling noises, and having difficulty hearing. Sight related symptoms include blurry vision, sensitivity to light and problems with depth perception. Your sense of feeling is also affected with symptoms that include burning sensations, numbness, and pain.

Mental

Your mind is at the heart of your anxiety and when you discover that, you find the key to effective anxiety therapy. It is the mental symptoms that will really help you get a diagnosis of anxiety, too, so it is important to recognize what they are.

When you are suffering from anxiety, you may feel like you are always afraid. Fear will cripple you and cause you to live in constant worry that something bad will happen. You will often feel overwhelmed and like you are helpless. You may be overly self-conscious as well.

In your mind, you may have a fear of everything. You may not feel like you are actually in the present and have senses of deja vu often. You may not be able to relate or interact with others very well. Your sleep can be affected and you may suffer from nightmares often.

Many people with anxiety feel trapped in their own head. They feel like they cannot control their thoughts and that their thoughts are taking them over. Many people feel depressed and feel like there is nothing happy in their life.

All the various symptoms of anxiety can be helped with anxiety therapy. It is all about getting diagnosed first with anxiety and then using your knowledge of the condition to help you seek out an anxiety therapy that will work for you.
